Clean Ireland Recycling wins top prize at Limerick St Patrick's Day Parade 31st March 2009

Clean Ireland Recycling stole the show at this years St Patrick's Day parade in Limerick. On it's first time entering the renowned event the company took home the top prize for the best float.

SIXTY THOUSAND ON LIMERICK STREETS FOR THE CITY’S LARGEST EVER ST PATRICK’S DAY PARADE

Gardai estimate that in excess of sixty thousand people turned out in glorious sunshine on the streets of Limerick today for the city’s 2009 St Patrick’s Day Parade.

Glamorous Celebrity Bainisteoir contestant and Den Tots presenter Emma O’Driscoll led the 2009 Limerick St Patrick’s Day Parade in a horse drawn carriage as Grand Marshal. She was accompanied by her team from St Patrick’s GAA club who joined with her in a rendition of “Here come the Boys” at the VIP Review Stand.

Minister for Defence, Willie O’Dea TD was present with Mayor of Limerick, Cllr John Gilligan, members of Limerick City Council and invited guests to witness the 91 entrants in the parade which included almost 3,000 participants.

The theme of the St Patrick’s Day parade was Go Green and a spectacle of colour and sound filled the streets of Limerick with a parade that celebrated all that the Riverside city has to offer.

Emma O’Driscoll said she was delighted and honoured to be the Grand Marshal.

“I had an absolutely amazing day and what a turnout!” she said. “This is one of the best days I’ve ever had in my life and I’m so proud of Limerick city”, she said.

Futureama Productions managing director Fran O’Donnell who organised this year’s Limerick St Patrick’s Festival said: “This really was the best St Patrick’s Day parade ever, we were astounded with the amount of entries. There were so many imaginative floats, hugely colourful participants who went to so much trouble to show their community spirit. We really are thrilled with the parade which gardai say was the largest ever on the streets of Limerick.”
